Problem: Recognizing that many of its citizens commute significant distances to work, Charles County Economic Development wanted to explore market supply and demand characteristics to determine whether investment of public funds in a life science-focused technology incubator could be successful as measured by standard outputs such as job creation and indirect benefits such as those associated with life science industry service providers.

Solution: Facility Logix conducted a comprehensive feasibility study to determine sustainability for a laboratory incubator facility in the metropolitan Washington, DC region. Results of the study indicated that a more likely fit for an incubator effort in this area would emphasize technologies relevant to the Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center and the neighboring Patuxent River Naval Research station. The County is currently evaluating next steps.
